Type of vines
Touraine is a crossroads which accommodated French seedlings coming from different natural areas. The various types of ground and the climatic nuances explain the establishment of several types of vines adapted to each particular situation. The wines resulting from all these types of vines have as characteristics :
Lightness
The smoothness
Aromatic richness.
Touraine-Mesland is characterized by :
Red wines :
- The Cabernet Franc originates in south-west, late, it produces full, fleshy wines, suited to ageing.
- The Gamay Noir, originates in the centre of France, it is appreciated for its lightness and its fruity, it produces the main part of the wines of Touraine.
- The Cot Noir or Malbec, coming from south-west, the wine is rather constructed and present a large aromatic smoothness.
The assembly of three types of vines is obligatory to assert AOC TOURAINE-MESLAND.
It must comprise a fork from approximately 20% of Cot Noir, 30% of Cabernet Franc and 50% of GAMAY.
White wines :
- Chardonnay comes from Burgundy (Bourgogne). This type of vine has a very high qualitative potential and makes it possible to work out dry white wines, effervescent wines, and even of the liqueur-like wines. The flavours are typical, complex and intense (exotic fruit dry, hazel nut, fruits, butter).
- Chenin originates from Val de Loire and probably in Anjou. This type of vine can give according to the conditions of culture and soils', that is to say effervescent wines, dry wines or liqueur-like wines. The potential of acidity is important and the obtained products are elegant, generally rather sharp, nervous, with honey flavours.
The assembly of these two types of vines is compulsory to obtain AOC TOURAINE-MESLAND; it is located in a range of 70% Chenin and 30% Chardonnay.
- Sauvignon is from the centre of France. It makes it possible to work out very elegant dry wines white, very fine, balanced and typified. The flavours present, especially in the wine of the first years, are rather specific and can present nuances of broom, blackcurrant and boxwood. It is used to produce the AOC Touraine out of single type of vine.
Muse of wine Mesland, favorite DIONYSOS, reappeared in time to save the aboriginal inhabitants of the region giving them the education of his child: the typical wine Mesland.
